It was day seven of 2013 Cannes Film Festival yesterday and the stars attended more movie premieres. Dita Von Teese and Sharon Stone attended the Behind the Candelabra premiere, while Jessica Chastain and Aishwarya Rai were seen at the premiere of Cleopatra. Kylie Minogue attended Les Salauds premiere in a stunning Roberto Cavalli gown.

Aishwarya Rai looked Goddess-like in a turquoise Armani Privé satin gown, which she accented with hot pink lipstick. Jessica Chastain opted for a minimalist Versace Collection long-sleeved white dress, which she accessorized with a statement Ms. Taylor Bulgari necklace.

Milla Jovovich looked great as always as she took to the red carpet in a dark blue Prada dress with an embellished skirt and a backless top. She finished her look with statement earrings and a sparkly clutch.

Model Joan Smalls went for a neutral Emilio Pucci Pre-Fall 2013 gown with a plunging neck and front slit. Erin Heatherton opted for a sparkly Roberto Cavalli gown, also in a neutral color. Chanel Iman wore a strapless black dress accessorized with David Yurman jewelry and Louis Vuitton miniadure.

Adriana Karembeu wore Jitrois leather dress with a fringed skirt and a semi-sheer top. Big green stone earrings completed her look.

Dita Von Teese at Behind The Candelabra premiere

It was Dita Von Teese’s second red dress in two days, a red Elie Saab Couture frock, which she completed with red satin Christian Louboutin pumps and a red sparkly handbag. She also wore statement earrings.

Adding some drama to the red carpet with her Zac Posen dress Araya A. Hargate looked like belle of the ball in mint green. She styled her look with Devi Kroell clutch and some statement jewelry.

Petra Nemcova, Moran Atias, Lara Nieto, Rosario Dawson and Sharon Stone all rocked metallic and sparkly dresses. Atias and Stone both wore royal blue dresses both by Roberto Cavalli. Lara Nieto and Rosario Dawson opted for gold Elie Saab gowns, while Petra Nemcova chose Emilio Pucci creation.

Opting for comfortable glamour Li Yuchun and Barbara Palvin wore trouser suits. Yuchun went for a red Gareth Pugh suit with numerous ruffles at the top and dramatic sleeves. Palvin chose a sleek Alexandre Vauthier suit and paired it with a sheer blouse.

Kate Bogucharskaia in Oscar de la Renta Resort 2014 collection photoshoot

Oscar de la Renta’s Resort 2014 collection is as elegant and elaborate as usual. The floral embellishments and beautiful prints make the collection feminine and red carpet-worthy. Though it’s not as bright as the last year’s resort line, it’s still very much in the designer’s style.

This year there was no resort fashion show though. The collection was presented for a small group of journalists and we get to see the outfits in a beautiful lookbook.

The collection includes beautiful gowns, elegant peplum dresses and trouser ensembles, tweed creations and some cocktail frocks. The silhouettes vary from A-line dresses to tulip skirts; classic pleated trousers are paired with assymetric peplum tops.

The color palette still includes some bright colors like pink, lime green, and royal blue but there are more neutral and pastel colors as well as darker shades. Embroidery varies from printed to dimensional flowers, sequins, lace appliques and drapery.

There are some great classic outfits in the lookbook that would fit for the office as well. They are more elaborate yet still classy. Cocktail dresses and gowns are decorated with lace, sheer fabric layers, and floral prints.

Accessories always play a big role in Oscar de la Renta’s collections. Here we see statement necklaces, bracelets, and oversized flower-shaped earrings. They often match with the outfits making for an impeccable yet flashy look.

The shoes are pointed but vary greatly in color and prints. The colors are neutral and bright, there are also models with bright or contrasting piping. There is also a model with net-like detail that almost makes it an ankle bootie.

This is a great collection full of understated elegance and feminine glamour. What do you think?

As the Cannes Film Festival is drawing to the end stars opt for more and more sparkle. The day before Sharon Stone, Rosario Dawson and many others rocked metallic dresses at the premieres of Cleopatra and Behind the Candelabra. Yesterday most of the celebs chose to wear glam sparkly dresses as they walked the red carpet of All Is Lost and Only God Forgives.

Jessica Chastain looked beautiful in a gorgeous sparkly purple Givenchy Couture dress that accentuated her waist. Richly embroidered dress had a front slit and an exposed zipper fastening on the back. The actress hasn’t even worn any jewelry with this amazing elaborate dress.

Also opting for Givenchy Couture, Li Yuchun wore an ombre fringed top and black trousers with open toe heels from the brand’s Fall 2012 collection. Araya A. Hargate also went for fringe in Salvatore Ferragamo dress from Resort 2012 collection styling it with Boucheron earrings and silver ring.

Just the day before yesterday Petra Nemcova wore metallic Emilio Pucci gown and to the premiere of All Is Lost she chose a soft pink Elie Saab Couture dress with sparkly embroidery. She accessorized her look with statement Chopard jewelry pieces and Elie Saab metallic clutch.

Kristin Scott Thomas shined in a blue metallic Armani Privé gown and Chopard jewels. The actress finished the look with Swaroovski clutch and black open toe shoes.

Milla Jovovich at the premiere of All Is Lost

Alessandra Ambrosio looked amazing in a metallic Roberto Cavalli gown, which she accessorized with de Grisogono jewels. Irina Shayk also opted for Cavalli but her dress was daring and open. Model Liu Wen also wore Cavalli but her dress was one of a few non-sparkly, she styled it with some Chopard jewels.

There were also some non-sparkly outfits. The first one of Elsa Zylberstein who wore white lace Armani gown and another one from Astrid Berges-Frisbey who wore a Chanel Couture dress with black overlaid lace.

Zhang Ziyi went for a black and gold Chanel Couture 2009 gown with a tulle train and a satin sash. The actress carried a Ferragamo egg-shaped clutch and finished her look with Chanel Joallierie jewels and Jimmy Choo shoes.

Milla Jovovich chose another midnight blue dress, this time by Armani. In this dress the top is embellished and the skirt is full and flowing.

Which one of these glam sparkly dresses you liked the most?

So, here’s the thing. We’re not sure we have the wherewithal to witness the glory that would be Beyoncé and Madonna share a stage. A dream, to be sure, but something that would most definitely blow our minds. And yet, now that Gucci’s Chime for Change concert lineup has been confirmed, we must officially prepare ourselves for this game-changing event.

Bey and Madge will be joined by many other proponents of girl power, including Ellie Goulding, Florence Welch, Freida Pinto, Blake Lively, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Jennifer Lopez. What’s great about this event is that it will include the boys, too, as Timbaland, James Franco, and John Legend have also been confirmed to present at the concert.

The whole production will go down Saturday, June 1 at Twickenham Stadium, but in the meantime, check out the Chime for Change video, and maybe secure some smelling salts to get you through the actual event. (Gucci)

This is the question that the editors over at XOJane posed to their readers, promising that their editorial team would try it first and share the fruits of their…non-effort. It doesn’t sound that groundbreaking, right? We didn’t think so either, until we clicked through the gallery and saw how different almost all of the women looked. Even more subtle changes provided very different results, enough to give us pause on how much of our primping routine is truly necessary…and how much we’ve simply been socialized to deem acceptable.

The challenge to do absolutely nothing to our hair seems a little extreme, but we have to say that this story is making us question who exactly we’re trying to impress when we spend the better part of an hour molding our hair into whatever coiff we deem appropriate for sporting in public. The pursuit of beauty can be empowering and enhance our individuality, but it can also make us feel that our natural features need to be changed and covered up. What do you think about about all of this natural-hair noise: would you happily go about your day with completely unstyled hair, or would you rather die than give up your styling products and hot tools? (XOJane)

Here is something you didn’t know about London. Not. It’s just finally official: Londoners experience the longest commute to work, of anyone in the U.K, even though we travel the shortest distances. Seriously, not okay.

In a survey carried out by recruiting firm Randstad Financial & Professional it is revealed that while we may travel, on average, only 15 miles to work, it takes us a soul-sapping 56 minutes to get there. Oh, how we feel every single one of those 60-second interludes. The survey also revealed what us city-dwellers get up to during those deadly minutes. No, we don’t read literary masterpieces or learn a foreign language. We get busy — but not in a good way. One in every 10 commuters spends their time doing work.

We put our hands up and admit we are guilty of this practice too, but seriously, when do we switch off? When we exit the tube? When we pop into Sainsbury’s to pick up something to eat? Or, when we put our key through the front door? There needs to be a cut-off point when work ends and the rest of our life begins.

We say from now onward, it starts with the tube ride. Let’s turn those 56 minutes into me-time. Read that book, listen to that album, and learn that language — it’s time to inject some fun into your <del>road to hell</del> journey to work. That copy of Gone Girl won’t read itself, you know. (The Evening Standard)

Alex Maxwell, Talent Buyer at Troubadour

Every week for the last 56 years, Troubadour has welcomed young, striving acts and old faves alike to Santa Monica Boulevard. It’s where The Byrds, James Taylor, and The Pointer Sisters had their debut performances, and where Fiona Apple, Joni Mitchell, and Metallica first played L.A. Hell, Don Henley and Glenn Frey met in the bar! Now, the responsibility of backing up all that rock history with a constant flow of new and classic acts is in some very young (if capable) hands. At 27, Alex Maxwell is the talent buyer and gatekeeper for a Los Angeles legend. Here, she talks about being a young fan girl, how she rose up the ranks of L.A. music so quickly, and what it’s like to book your childhood heroes.

Invariably, everyone’s love affair with music begins in high school. What were you like back then?

“I’m finally comfortable admitting that I was an emo kid. I wasn’t athletic or particularly popular, but I got along with most people. I think I was the token ‘rebellious’ friend. My hometown — Heber City, UT — is really conservative, so wearing tank tops and smoking weed occasionally made me a real black sheep. I was also the kid you saw waiting outside of the venue at 2 p.m. before a show, needing to be at the very front, singing every word.”

And how did that lead to a career in music?

“It was just something I gravitated toward naturally as a freshman in college. This was during the peak of the emo scene — which I may or may not have been part of. I got my feet wet as a production assistant, box-office rep, merch seller, street teamer, runner…I jumped at any random position that needed filling at the various venues in Salt Lake City.”

But SLC is a long way off from Santa Monica Boulevard. How did you make the leap?

“All my earlier work helped me land a job at The Fold Presents the day I moved back to L.A. From there, I dove into booking, starting with The Silverlake Lounge and Bordello and working my way up to Bootleg Theater. My boss trusted me and gave me the freedom to program and really brand the room. For this, I’m eternally grateful. I hustled to put the venue on the map. Apparently, it didn’t go unnoticed.”

And when did you know you’d “made it”?

“My first ‘whoa!’ moment was when I booked my favorite childhood band, Ozma, at Bootleg Theater. I listened to that band before I could drive. I was/am a megafan! The 15-year-old version of myself would have never guessed I’d grow up to know them and get to work with them. My second ‘whoa!’ moment was when I booked Garbage…because, I mean… it’s Garbage. Shirley Manson is a goddess, and they have so many amazing hits. My biggest, most obvious ‘whoa, I made it!’ moment was getting the call that I was the next talent buyer at the Troubadour. I always put it on a pedestal — dreamt about one day programming the calendar — but never thought I had a shot in hell at the job. Persistence and hard work do pay off, kids!”

What’s it like working for that legendary venue?

“I’m still in awe that I managed to land my dream job here — it’s surreal. There’s so much history — Neil Young, Springsteen, Hall and Oates, Guns n’ Roses, Leonard Cohen, James Taylor, Elton John, Metallica, Radiohead, The Cure…the list goes on. I feel honored that I get to continue building it. This is a family business, and it feels like it. It’s warm and inviting — not just to me — but for fans and musicians. The vibe here is hard to describe, impossible to replicate. Special things happen at Troubadour. Honestly, it’s even better than I imagined.”

How do you stay professional while running a venue like that? The freaks come out at night, right?

“People certainly tend to get freakier as the night progresses. I have to imagine that’s due to alcohol consumption. When my parents tell me stories of their rock ‘n’ roll days in the ’80s, it sounds a lot wilder than anything I’ve seen. Either people have mellowed out, or I’m blind to what’s going on around me. I might be a nightwalker, but I’m pretty innocent. I’ll take a Jack on the rocks, sometimes followed by a Corona, but that’s it. I need to keep a clear mind in case I need to put out any fires…figuratively and literally.”

Everyone is talking about Cara Delevingne these days. And more precisely, everyone wants Cara Delevingne. Men, pop-stars (hi, Rita Ora), and fashion houses alike, but this girl doesn’t give out so easily. Besides an alleged fling with Harry Styles, a potential romance with Prince Harry, and an unlikely pairing with Jake Bugg, she’s yet to commit herself to a lucky fellow. But that doesn’t stop them from trying…. Step forward Leo DiCaprio. You’d think being a hunky Hollywood star with a bulging bank account and closet full of Oscar nominations would be enough to tempt a girl to dinner, but nope, DiCaprio can’t catch her either.

Dripping in diamonds and oozing sex appeal at Cannes, Delevingne snubbed Dicaprio’s invite to a “private celebration” after the Gatsby premiere, stating that the 18-year age gap between him and her 20-year-old self was too much. So, in short, he’s too old. Ouch! As if that wasn’t a big enough knock-back, the Burberry model also reportedly brushed him off for being too forward.

A source at the event reported: “He spent the night chasing after her and essentially she blew him out…he tried every trick in the book and apparently kept lunging for her but she kept dodging them.” Hmm, anyone else seeing an uncanny likeness to Jay Gatsby, all of a sudden?

As Spotify grows in popularity, its potential to eclipse iTunes draws near (insert ominous music, here). The music streaming service’s latest attempt to shake up the digital music world comes with Spotify Charts, an easily downloadable widget updated weekly showcasing the past week’s most listened to and most viral tracks.

Think of it as one large Billboard Top 40 list that happens to be in constant motion. Each Monday, Spotify now updates the Spotify 50 and Social 50 charts, so you never having to face the fear of listening to something out of trend (if you think no one in your social network hasn’t seen the number of times you’ve had Celine Dion on rotation, think again. But that’s okay). “What’s so powerful about the streaming charts,” says Steve Savoca, Head of Content at Spotify, “is they let you hear what people are really listening to, right now, and not just what they’re buying.” It’s different than iTunes’ top charts because it is tracking popularity, not just purchases. Users will be able to see a song’s play count dating all the way back to October 2008.

You can download the free widget now and see what’s popular and what’s gone viral across each of Spotify’s 28 global markets. If your friends give you flack for listening to One Direction (there is absolutely no shame in listening to them — none whatsoever) you can pull up the charts and show how popular they are in Europe — and automatically sound more superior, obviously.

We’re all about the slashies: those creative souls whose talents can’t possibly be contained by just one occupation. So, when we first met Wendy Polish, we mistook her for a gorgeous model-slash-actress — just blame those razor-sharp cheekbones (and that face!). But in actuality, Polish has an eponymous textile and card line, designs packaging for local brands, and is the co-founder (along with master makeup artist Jo Strettell) of Le Feu de L’Eau, the coolest candle company in town.

Naturally, we couldn’t wait to discover how this polymath stays so fresh-faced while running her thriving companies and raising her adorable 12-year-old daughter (yes, we fact-checked that last bit — twice!). The stunner showed us around her dreamy Silverlake abode and chatted with us about art, timeless style, and natural beauty. Behold, our new BFF…
