Exclusive: Meet Terence Koh’s Adorable Kitten, Skeleton, Star of United Bamboo’s 2013 Cat Calendar Shoot
This weekend I had the distinct pleasure of crashing the photo shoot for the 2013 edition of the now-famous United Bamboo cat calendar. This past Saturday, nearly 30 cats (and their owners) came through United Bamboo’s Soho studio to pose for photographer Noah Sheldon in the label’s special cat-size collection.
One of those cats happened to be Skeleton, the seven-month old kitten of famed artist Terence Koh. Fittingly, Koh, Skeleton and Koh’s husband Garrick Gott, were the last to arrive, as Koh had just gotten off a plane from his native Canada that evening. Skeleton did not disappoint.
Despite being one of the youngest cats on the shoot (shh, don’t tell the CFDA!), Skeleton, with his big black eyes and clean white fur, blew all of us away, including the photographer, who must have exclaimed, “Amazing!” at least a dozen times. And while we can’t show you the final look yet, we can confirm that, yes, Skeleton did wear white. “I would prefer if he wore white but he doesn’t have to,” Terence said to designer Miho Aoki as they scoured a rack of cat clothes for an outfit.
“We got him through a breeder; we really wanted a devon rex because it’s this breed that looks like a lamb; and we wanted a white male. It took us a long time to find one, so we’re really happy with him,” Koh told me after the shoot. He and Gott do have one other cat–an orange tabby. “He’s jealous. He’s not getting enough attention. No, but they love each other.” Koh and Gott hope Skeleton gets either August (“It’s both of our birthdays”) or December because he’s white, like snow.
As for how Skeleton ended up a future cat calendar star (seriously, I’d bet money he gets the cover), Koh explained, simply, “We saw the casting call and we thought he would be perfect for it and I love United Bamboo.” So do we. So. do. we.
