‘American Idol Finale’ Recap: Phillip Phillips Should Win

After an incredible finale between Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez, it is clear that one of them shined most and should become our next American Idol!

The two remaining American Idol finalists – Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez — took on three songs each May 22, one being their favorite song of the competition, one picked by Idol producer Simon Fuller, and one that will be their first post-Idol single. In order to win the American Idol crown, Phillip and Jessica had to deliver the best performances of their lives. So who pulled out all the stops and should be the Season 11 winner?

Round 1:

Jessica sang Whitney Houston‘s “I Have Nothing,” which didn’t come close to being as good as the first time she performed it earlier this season. She was clearly nervous, and needs to step it up if she wants to win this thing.

Phillip sang “Stand By Me” and clearly has more fans for him in the audience, judging from their screaming. He definitely won this round for me — he was actually singing and having fun. There weren’t any nerves there at all.

Winner: Jennifer and Randy pick Jessica (they’re wrong!)

Round 2:

Jessica sang “The Prayer,” which is basically the same old stuff. However, she did much better than her first song because she didn’t overdue it.

Phillip sang “Moving Out” by Billy Joel and the crowd went wild. However, I thought it was blah, at best.

Winner: Jessica obviously won this round, in my opinion. Steven says Jessica won. Randy says it’s a tie and J. Lo picked Phillip.

Round 3:

Jessica sang what will be her first single, “Change Nothing,” and I think it’s decent, but not great. If Phillip has a good song, he wins. Randy hated the song, Jennifer was blah about it and Steven agreed it wasn’t good. Even Jessica admitted the song and performance were not her best.

Phillip’s song was much better than Jessica’s and the fans were going NUTS for it. It’s very hokey, almost like a song you’d here in the animated movie Cars, but it does the trick. All the judges give him a standing ovation. Randy loves it, Jennifer loves it and even Steven admits, “I think you are the man.”

Ladies and gentleman, I think Phillip Phillips just won American Idol.
